Google hits Android ROM modder with a cease-and-desist letter
Google’s hit the developer of the Cyanogen modded Android ROM with a cease-and-desist letter, asking him to stop distributing the closed-source Google apps like Gmail, Maps, and YouTube. This popular mod that’s tempted over 30,000 users into rooting their phones ( Rooting is the process by which you regain administrative access to your phone. It opens up otherwise impossible options to your phone. ) comes as a shock to many android users.
Google is within their rights asking him to stop distributing the closed-source Google apps like Gmail, Maps, and YouTube. But we feel, it’s totally against the whole idea of an open OS. Cyanogen Mod has got some hardcore features likey the Exchange mail client (some developers are charging around $25 for that).
Are you using the Cyanogen Mod ? What do u think of this whole situation.

Google maps on Tmobile Android G1 looks awesome
Have a look @ the video and see how cool the Map features are on Android. You can pan around and zoom in and out easily using just your thumb on the touchscreen and while in street view you can just turn around with the phone in your hand and the street view aligns itself to face in that direction. One other thing I noticed was that in the normal view the maps had more detail on on the buildings as shown in the screengrab this is not there on Windows Mobile.
